In partnership with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, our fifth-grade students participate in the D.A.R.E. America program during school hours. Over the course of a semester, 5th grade students attend a one-hour weekly lesson presented by Officer Jackson of the VPSO. Officer Jackson teaches the students good decision-making skills which will help them lead safe and healthy lives.
D.A.R.E. envisions a world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors. The D.A.R.E. mission compliments our school mission of developing leaders.
At the conclusion of the program, eligible students are presented with a graduation diploma and various forms of recognition by the school and community.
Officer Jackson also spends school time visiting younger students and promoting healthy choices.
